YOGABARREDANCE

ABOUT ME

Originally from Melbourne, I relocated just north of Byron Bay, Australia seeking a more balanced lifestyle and to SLOW down after experiencing what I later recognised as CORPORATE BURNOUT. I reconnected with my love of yoga and was introduced to an intentionally slow and gentle practice and what I felt afterwards was a peace, ease and joy like I had not experienced before.

In 2014, I signed up for my initial Yoga Teacher training and felt at home right away. Opportunities to teach opened up immediately after my training and I took the plunge and opened my own studio that same year.

Interestingly, I was attracting people with injuries, conditions, burn out and exhaustion, chronic pain, PTSD or trauma and those who were seeking safe, slow or gentle practices. I guess you could say your vibe attracts your tribe’ was in full swing. The overwhelming feedback I was receiving from participants was they felt safe and by the end of class were often pain free, at ease, relaxed and this was a great motivation for me to continue studies.

I was fortunate enough to attend Donna Farhi’s last in person Advanced Teacher training in 2015. Her style of practice resonated with me on such a deep level as it provided an opportunity to experience movements of a deeply subtle nature which invoke self-enquiry into the body, sensations, feelings and emotions in a safe, supportive and accessible yoga practice. Her training has left a deep imprint on how I teach to this day.

In 2016 I seriously strained my lower back and quickly learned all about my PSOAS muscle (our primary core muscle) and what a profound impact it has on our health and structural integrity. I rapidly grew a bundle of empathy and understanding for anyone experiencing chronic pain, trauma or carrying injuries.

I have also studied Hanna Somatics with Lisa Peterson, Calligraphy Yoga with Master Yang and attended a Trauma Informed YTT. My yoga classes are a unique fusion of these modalities which I believe offer a well-rounded, gentle, fluid and nervous system friendly approach to classes.

My other great passion is DANCE! In particular Sensual Embodied Dance (SED). After practicing for 7 years with Holly Hodetzki, I completed my Teacher training in 2021. This incredibly unique practice compliments the style of yoga I teach to a tee! – both are embodiment based and support connecting body, sensations, emotions and thoughts – bringing all the senses alive and present. Both offer practices where there is no right or wrong but simple opportunities to notice, feel and accept what is.

SED helps release tension, create flow and freedom and enhance your ability to express without a filter in a safe and supportive community.

Very recently I was interested in exploring and incorporating more small apparatus, a more dynamic class and adding a dash of dance cardio into the mix, so I have recorded some online Barre classes with a clear focus on energising, core strength and having fun.

So no matter which class you attend you can expect me to be down to earth, friendly and compassionate. I offer a balance between clear instructions and demonstrations and space to feel, breathe and explore. Beginners are welcome and you are always encouraged to move in a way that feels good for YOU.

My intention is to share inclusive, nourishing classes that support YOU to experience deeper levels of relaxation, strength, grounding, creative expression and connection through the medicine of movement.

When I‘m not teaching I am chasing the sun, working on my beloved one acre property or hanging out with a friend or family.
